Wendy Cromley is a native Coloradan who has loved to sing ever since she was a child. The youngest of four in a family of music lovers, Wendy was exposed to a wide range of styles including pop, rock, jazz, folk, and country. Once her sister taught her to harmonize, Wendy picked it up quickly, singing along with songs playing around the house and on the radio.
 
Born with under-developed eyes, Wendy was diagnosed with low vision. She attended public school, where her visual challenges often made it difficult to keep up with studies and homework assignments. However, music always got her through tough times. Teachers and friends noticed her singing voice; she sang in elementary school programs, later joining choirs in junior high and high school.
 
With the help and encouragement of her family, teachers, and low vision specialists, Wendy pursued her passion for singing at Western State Colorado. She earned her Master’s degree at the University of Northern Colorado in Greeley where she studied both classical music and jazz. It was there that she discovered the joy of vocal jazz and a cappella singing.
 
During college she sang in the top jazz groups and choirs, performed in summer stock, plays, and melodramas, and co-directed variety shows. She performed multiple years at the Greeley Jazz Festival and worked at their summer jazz camp. She was hired as section leader/soloist at a nearby church and served as the assistant director of the children’s choir.

 
After graduate school she joined the professional nationally-touring a cappella octet Pieces of 8. Her tenure with that ensemble lasted eleven years – six years based in New York with professional management and representation by ICM and AMG. Wendy made four recordings with Pieces of 8: Hook, Line & Sinker, Falling Together, Across the Blue Meridian, and Gift, all still commercially available. The group performed in countless venues including concert halls nationwide and New York’s famous clubs The Bottom Line and The Knitting Factory.
 
Pieces of 8 was asked to record a song for the United Airlines airborne playlist, and they were also featured in an article in Recording magazine. They had the privilege of working with Young Audiences, a program for K-12 children where the group sang parables set to original music, exploring musical styles and rhythm. They promoted their book and audio recording, The Gingerbread Man, performing in libraries and book stores around the country including FAO Schwarz in New York City.  
 
After Pieces of 8 disbanded, Wendy moved back to Colorado to be close to family, married her longtime sweetheart Clayton Cromley, and opened a private voice studio. She has since performed with groups throughout Colorado. Currently she sings with a blues/jazz band, Freestyle, and also with an a cappella quartet, Euphony. She also joined the Denver chamber group Voices of Light, who perform recently-composed choral works. Wendy is especially grateful that all her current groups also feature her amazing husband, good friends, or both.
